Maximizing Hydrogen’s Purity and Efficiency

How Liquefaction Upgrades Hydrogen

Due to its density, Liquid hydrogen (LH2) is the most promising source for sustainable advanced clean energy. As the need for LH2 increases, the need for processes and technologies to liquefy gaseous hydrogen also increases. The GenH2 Light-Scale Liquefaction solution uses the process of generating LH2 from a gaseous source by cryogenically cooling and condensing the hydrogen until it is liquefied.

The GenH2 liquefaction system is designed to produce ultra-pure liquid from a gaseous hydrogen source. Gaseous hydrogen can be fed to the liquefier from a variety of sources such as a storage tank, electrolyzer, or steam methane reformer. This technology offers large capacity for its process type, high efficiency for its size category, and a modular, scalable format with an option that does not require liquid nitrogen pre-cooling. Although nitrogen pre-cooling is not required, the unit is versatile enough that it can be used to speed the liquefying process. Additionally, the modularity and light-scale size offer tremendous flexibility with a footprint smaller than typical liquid hydrogen solutions.

Inspired by technology pioneered by NASA, GenH2 has created light-scale hydrogen liquefaction systems in sizes including small-scale (2-20 kg/day), medium-scale (50-100 kg/day), and industrial-scale (1000 kg/day).
