Eliminating Ocean Pollutants

The Cleanliness of Hydrogen

As the world becomes more environmentally aware of the dangers of carbon emissions and the consumption of fossil fuels, it’s important to first target the largest producers of these pollutants. In the case of seafaring vessels, they are at the top of the list with 9.4 million gallons of diesel consumed every voyage, and a combined 1 billion metric tons of carbon poured into our atmosphere every year. Additional marine fuel risks have been oil spills, which historically have been catastrophic to ocean life. Combining all of these concerns, a switch to clean energy in the way of hydrogen is the best possible option.

Hydrogen is not only zero-emission thanks to its burn-off being water vapor, but it is 3x more powerful than diesel and requires less consumption overall. It also holds far more energy, producing enough onboard energy to remove the need for batteries.

Another important consideration is that hydrogen is completely renewable and made on-site, meaning it can be made anywhere when needed and will never run out. For the sake of seafaring vessels, this means they could stay fueled for longer, be refueled at a moment’s notice, and never worry about carbon emissions ever again.
