A Small Cryostat for Measuring Heat Conduction
How the Macroflash is in a League of its Own in Calorimeters
The GenH2 Macroflash stands out in accuracy and repeatability as the smallest testing unit in the product line of cryostats. Also called the Cup-Cryostat, the Macroflash operates without the need for a vacuum chamber and can provide multiple measurements per day.
Advancing upon technology pioneered by NASA, the Macroflash uses a process called boiloff calorimetry, which measures how much heat can be held by or transferred through an object. The heat that passes through the test object transfers to a boiloff fluid, causing it to evaporate. Identifying the amount of fluid that evaporates helps determine heat conductivity in the sample object.
The testing instrument is very flexible and efficient with the ability to produce multiple data points by adding additional sensors to the sample. Additional data points provide a better understanding of heat conductivity for individual layers of the specimen or material/system. The ability to undergo multiple tests per day, combined with the ease of operation also allows the user to quickly obtain precise results. The ease of use of the GenH2 Macroflash has led higher education institutions to adopt the instrument as a key testing device.
